The club's third president, Gerry assumed the reins in 1974 and held on for
three years. Gerry modified the financial structure during his tenure
and set up a pool of rental skates to ensure proper care was maintained.
His leadership on the business side formulated our path to financial
stability. As well Gerry found time to work outdoor meets as timer /
judge and on one occasion as meet coordinator. In 1979 Gerry and his
wife Sheila volunteered to be editors for a club newsletter. "On Thin
Ice" was born with volume 1, number 1 published in May 1979. Gerry and
Sheila were coordinators until May 1984, a period of 5 years. The
newsletter brought accolades and commendations on its informativeness to
these editors from CASSA and many Clubs. Gerry was strongly implicated
in the metamorphosis of "Odlo Ving" and the "Things That Boggle Your Mind".
Gerry
was a long distance runner and after a 20 year hiatus, started running again
in 1976. In 1981 he ran the National Capital Marathon in 2 hours 38
minutes, a very commendable time.
The
Pacer thank Gerry for his dedication to the club.
